Choosing the right plants to have in the office is not the easiest thing to do. The variety of available office plants is so vast that the job can seem confusing and impossible, particularly to those who are not knowledgeable of plants in the first place. However, it is important to realise that the best plants are not those that are greenest, or provide the best flowers or even require the least amount of attention, though each of these aspects are worthy enough to be influential. It is not even the aspect of versatility on which the issue rests, such as plants that can fit into every seasonal event, comfortably sporting those commercial Christmas decorations at the appropriate time of year, for example. In fact, it is widely accepted that the best indoor plants to choose for the office all add to the health of the staff working in the immediate environment, just as much as the aesthetic impact that they may make. This, of course, does not simplify the task either, which is why we have compiled a list of five of the best plants to choose for the office, and why they are so worthwhile. Ficus Alii A perfect tree like appearance, the ficus alii plant is amongst the most popular plants to choose for an office. With plenty of foliage, it is highly effective at keeping the stuffy office air light and fresh, thereby improving the working environment significantly. They can discreetly stand against walls, pillars and even act as a divider in an office. Admittedly, they do typically require some attention, with their love of sunlight, but they tend to adapt to an office environment quickly and well. Dracaena Janet Craig A common plant with thick, green foliage, the dracaena janet craig can be found in tree form, as well as a small table plant. But more importantly, it is recognised as being highly effective in removing the toxin trichloreoethylene from the air, a substance that has been linked to cancers and which can find its way into the air around manufacturing plants that may use the substance. Its leave look refreshingly moist and it does not need much light, which means a minimum amount of attention too. Pothos Ivy This plant is commonly known as the Devils Ivy, perhaps because of the splash of light green that brands some of its species. They are favoured in the office because of their lushness as well as their adaptability to life indoors. They do not require high levels of natural light, which immediately makes them ideal for many smaller offices located on the interior side of an office block. And as small plants that require the minimum amount of attention, they can be placed practically anywhere. The Peace Lily Each Peace Lily plant boasts a single white lily that stands high above its dark green foliage, making for an impressive sight. However, this lily is also highly effective in cleaning the air of common pollutants. Sitting on shelves or sideboards around an office, this plant will make a great impact visually as well as improving the immediate environment. It also famously grows thick and fast, and for that reason is often used very effectively as a natural divider, as part of an overall office floor plan. English Ivy In a busy office, with so many people breathing the air and items scattering dust in the air, there is a real chance of mould developing in the air too. Over a prolonged period of time, breathing this mould can lead to respiratory problems. However, English Ivy can efficiently remove this from the air, making the quality of air in the office much better. Impressive to look at, it can hang beautifully down walls or pillars. Of course, there many other plants that one can choose for the office, from the spider plant that hangs gracefully from a hanging basket to the common cactus, that can reside almost unnoticed anywhere. While the small tree type plants can certainly accommodate
commercial christmas decorations at that time of year, the smaller
indoor plants can offer splashes of colour around the room. As
office plants, all of them are aesthetically pleasing, but it is the added health value that can set some of them apart from the rest.
